Shadow Chair

This chair seems to defy gravity by balancing only on 2 front legs. A rigid steel frame built inside the chair is actually part of the design, allowing it to rest on its own shadow.

Yoav Avinoam Sitting in a Tree

Isreali designer, Yoav Avinoam, created a line of furniture created from wood shavings pressed into a mold. The tree legs on a few of his pieces is an especially nice touch.

Marbelous!

Instead of playing with your food, you can play with your table. "Marbelous" is the latest offering from Nathan Wierink and Tineke Beunders of the Ontwerpduo studio. Marbles roll into grooves on the tabletop, down the spindled legs and collect in a box at the bottom. It's a lot of money well spent for five minutes of fun!

pour les alpes.

"pour les alpes" is a collaborative effort between two Swiss designers, Tina Stieger and Annina Gähwiler, to create pieces of furniture that are inspired by the Alpine terrain and culture. These three bedside tables represent the erosion of rock, the steep rooftops of Alpine homes, and topographical views of the glaciers.

Swiss Cheese Bed from netwerch

A new bed from a group that describes themselves as "a young enterprise specializing in the broad field of architecture, szenography, and everyday product design. our architectural projects are on mandate basis. netwerch designs and sells swiss made products on our own initiative."

I noticed these guys a few years ago when they released their "powerlift," a small wooden folding device designed to lift a laptop off a table thereby avoiding overheating. They continue to design new products reflecting simplicity in form and materials. This time it's a bed that uses no nails or tools for assembly. The bed sections slot together forming a hovering platform. Small and lightweight it's a great solution to small places or for the extra bed guests.

Changing Cupboard

FRONT design is sitting upon a thought bubble whist questioning the existence of thought.

The studio retrofitted a cupboard with rotating slots similar to those found on automated billboards. The result is cupboard that no longer has any practical use, but is still really cool to watch! Check the link below to see the movie of the cupboard changing faces.

Oh, and FRONT design wants us to recognize something about recognizing the end of an object and understanding that recognizing understanding is the first step towards recognition.
