Replenish Bottle Design

A smart take on light-weighting and reuse for spray bottles. In addition they've eliminated the metal springs normally found in pump handles which makes the bottle fully recyclable when you choose to toss it. I like the design but think the company needs to talk more about how well the product cleans. Green might sell a product once, but only once if it doesn't really work. I'm ordering a bottle today and will let you know how it goes.

Stamps of Approval

A few years back, Pingmag compiled a list of interesting, and often overlooked, European stamps. Themes run the gamut from children activities to public health services. In addition to interesting graphics, the final segment focuses on material options for stamps: woven or wooden stamps = trés cool.

The Mathematics of Beauty

Online dating site OKCupid has posted a study of female attractiveness, and the results have me thinking about design.

In a nutshell...

For example...

Ms. Left is, in an absolute sense, considered slightly more attractive. Ms. Right was given the lowest rating (1) 142% more often than Ms. Left. Yet, Ms. Right receives 3 times as many messages.

The article ends with a suggestion for the ladies:

"Take whatever you think some guys don't like–and play it up."

Evil Read

I was cleaning images off my desktop and found the most amazing compilation of stationery ever designed. Unfortunately, I do not have a source for the image.

iCade

We posted about an April Fool's day joke last year that told of an iPad cradle designed to look like an old-school arcade machine. At CES this week, iCade was announced as a bona fide creation by Ion Studio in association with Atari. Any compatible game will link up to the joystiq and buttons via bluetooth. It will launch in Spring with Asteroids.

Keel Idea

A friend of David's has sent along this image depicting a new concept in surfboards by Ekstrom. The board requires no keel (fins on the bottom of the board). As a result, the silhouette of the board had to be amended, so the question of simplification hangs in the air. However, if you can always find them in the back of vans containing giant burritos, it is a win for me!
