Write a Bike

Juri Zaech, a Swiss Art Director living in Paris, is preparing prototypes for his bicycles with frames based off of user's names. They look great, but may not be completely practical. If you are furiously racing down a SF street on one of these without brakes, at least everyone will know your name!

F.D.A. Unveils Graphic Warning Labels for Cigarettes

Now that tobacco is being regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, cigarette packs will depict graphics of smoking consequences filling half the front pack face. The result is an anomaly in packaging design where the product has developed a split personality that tries to seduce and deter the consumer. Hopefully, this will not be a trend that translates to other products overseen by the FDA.

Coca-Cola Mystic

Jerome Olivet is the latest designer to imagine how the Coke bottle form could be reconsidered. Jerome's promotion of the bottle is, well, French. I will leave it to his description:

“Mystic surprised by its beauty and intensity. It was created to live an intense and fleeting moment. Its racy style describes a supernatural world which soars skyward. Its skin has a sculpted unique spiritual experience. We discover in the palm of our hand soft and aerodynamic forms. Its living surface is shaped by a force mysterious and transparent. It sends us all the energy and excitement of Coca-Cola Its sexy lines and red color give happiness in 3 dimensions. Both organic shapes intertwine and form a body ambiguous and fascinating. Its loving silhouette, ties into a true popular poetry.”

Death Bag-netic

The Death Bag, by Vedang Julkarni, uses a coffin shape to discourage mass use of plastic bags. It seems a bit counterintuitive, seeing as mass usage of this plastic bag is what will create such awareness. Regardless, it would have been a cool companion piece to the Metallica album.
