so creative, it's scary

An impromptu costume-making session on Halloween resulted in some pretty hilarious looking trick-or-treaters. And, we finally figured out what to do with the box of client samples!

With special guest appearances by: Howard Stern, Uma Thurman (post overdose), Pocahontas, Snoopy, the Last Samurai, Blackbeard the Pirate, a tatted-up Marty (sans eyelids), a pregnant pumpkin, and (the Original) Reese's Man.

Halloween Candy Code

A moderator at Cockeyed has posted this great reference for a Halloween Candy Code, that kids in his Sacramento neighborhood used to quickly navigate he perils of Trick or Treating. These markings could consistently be found at the beginning of driveways.

Hatch, San Francisco, recently designed the packaging for the newly launched, JAQK (great name) Cellars. The line is a great concept being expanded while consistently reinterpreted to create a line that feels fresh from every angle. Basically, this looks like it was a damn cool project to work on.

Lou Dorfsman, the former Design Chief at CBS, died last Wednesday at the age of 90. He was a pioneering designer in the United States who made design matter to companies and ideas central to his work. Here's a few links to stories about Lou.

Swiss Cheese Bed from netwerch

A new bed from a group that describes themselves as "a young enterprise specializing in the broad field of architecture, szenography, and everyday product design. our architectural projects are on mandate basis. netwerch designs and sells swiss made products on our own initiative."

I noticed these guys a few years ago when they released their "powerlift," a small wooden folding device designed to lift a laptop off a table thereby avoiding overheating. They continue to design new products reflecting simplicity in form and materials. This time it's a bed that uses no nails or tools for assembly. The bed sections slot together forming a hovering platform. Small and lightweight it's a great solution to small places or for the extra bed guests.

Pirate booty

826 tutors and provides workshops on writing and creative expression for 6-18 year old kids. It was established in SF in 2002 by renown writer Dave Eggers and educator Ninive Calegari. Because the building where the classes took place (826) was zoned commercial, they set up a storefront selling pirate goods as a way to keep the doors open. Other chapters in NY and LA have the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co., and Echo Park Time Travel Mart. Recently they worked with Office in SF to develop nearly 50 new products. Argh! 

Gates of Apples

The Applegate Farms team was jetting to NYC, PT Cruisering to Jersey and crossing the Deleware to PA this past weekend meeting with the company's founder, his family and some of the lovely Applegaters. Highlights included meeting Lady Liberty, being out-cooked by 12yr old, bacon-flavored chocolate, arts n' crafts & general conversations surrounding Chris' mohawk.
