The art of photographing sideways

I recently came across this interesting swedish photographer, admittedly his ideas are not the most unique, but he plays with scale in such a way that it makes his images quite epic. His work for Jim Rickey is an idea that we've all seen a thousand times but there's just something better about this set. Although I'm not 100% convinced by the campaign itself, it does make for some interesting images.

Anchor Labels

Last night, as I was enjoying some beverages at Anchor Brewery, I asked the bartender about their packaging and uncovered this cool story. All of the Anchor labels are hand drawn and designed by this WWII vet named Jim Stitt. It's a pretty amazing feat considering he re-draws the Christmas label every year. The SF Chronicle did a story a couple years back.. check it out here..

Snow quilts

Artist Simon Beck must really love the cold weather! Along the frozen lakes of Savoie , France , he spends days plodding through the snow in raquettes (snowshoes), creating these sensational patterns of snow art. Working for 5-9 hours a day, each final piece is typically the size of three soccer fields! The geometric forms range in mathematical patterns and shapes that create stunning, sometimes 3D, designs when viewed from higher levels. How long these magnificent geometric forms survive is completely dependent on the weather. Beck designs and redesigns the patterns as new snow falls, sometimes unable to finish a piece due to significant overnight accumulations. The main reason for making them was because I can no longer run properly due to problems with my feet, so plodding about on level snow is the least painful way of getting exercise. Gradually, the reason has become photographing them, and I am considering buying a better camera. - Simon Beck DT

Floridudes

Jacksonville-based agency, On Ideas, is in the spotlight with their new logo for the state of Florida which is causing some controversy.

It a not-so-subtle attempt to reestablish Florida as a business mecca, and not a bath salt eating graveyard, a necktie is used in place of the "i." Many are calling the logo sexist. On Ideas has assured the public that they met with 25 female chief marketing officers (at random?) before unveiling the logo.
