Green and Hazy Makes You Crazy

The Le Tourment Vert bottles finally made it across the border and into cold, critical design hearts. TDSF celebrated the [secret] launch of the absinthe with an official taste test last week. Is there no better way to start off the holiday season than a little green in our tummies and some red in our cheeks?

Thanks to Terry for the great photos of this event and some of the AIGA images as well.

Paper Hats Off to TD

A bit of a belated congrats to the TD designers that participated in AIGA's annual fall gala, "Afterlife: Paper, Purgatory, and the Great Beyond". Almost 700 people attended the fundraiser to celebrate the "creative unwasting of paper." Fashion and objects of art were displayed and auctioned off at the event to benefit the AIGA. TD showcased two dresses, earrings, a coffee table, numerous framed pieces of art, and a beaded necklace.

Congrats to Sarah, Brittany (who doubled as a model), Marty, Emily, Rebecca, and Loopy Lynda for their hard work!

Urban Jungle

Vincent Callebaut Architects have proposed a new waterfront for the Central Business District in Hong Kong. The complex seeks to solve the density issue of over 30,000 inhabitants per square km, as well as to renaturalize the urban environment. The new spaces would produce more energy and biodiversity than they consume.

Siggi Eggertsson

Siggi Eggersson is an Icelandic illustrator now living in London. He has a pretty unique style that has been commissioned by larger clients such as H&M and Coca-Cola (check out that transition from yesterday's post). His work is an interesting contrast of pixel-inspired technique with a distinctively non-RGB color palette.

Three Tiers! Holiday

I just now realized I should probably blog this instead of sending endless e-mails to the SF studio. Hatch, San Francisco, has designed the '07 holiday packaging for Coke, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero. As an observance of how our work on Coke has rested in other hands, I have also included Hatch's other work on the i.d. for Vanilla Coke and Vanilla Coke Zero: does anyone else see Créme Savers?

...Orange's Unlimited Web Page...

UK's Cell Service, Orange, has developed a never-ending, vertical-scrolling web page to promote their unlimited service. There are quite a few witty animations and plenty of clickable items to keep you scrolling down for a while.

The Pirates of Larkspur

Pirate David Turner of Cutlass, and his fiesty wench, Ellen Dahanden D'Bauchery, indulged in cackle fruit and a few draughts this past weekend. Ellen showed her "treasure chest" as pictured above, but chose to censor her "pirate booty" from the spying eyes of scallywags.

Packaging inspired by architecture?

On NOTCOT, there is an article that discusses the myth behind the design of Chanel's No.5 bottle. Coco Chanel frequented Place Vendome, and the proportions of the No.5 bottle exactly match that of the plaza. (The Google maps picture is a split image with the bottle superimposed on the left.)

This could be the transverse of the effect the ipod had on the Apple store designs.
