Hug it Out

A Coca-Cola vending machine in Singapore is utilizing gesture-based marketing. Hugging the frame of the front panel releases a bottle of Coke from the tray at the bottom.

Harder, Faster, Stronger, Burger Better-er

Following the successful collaboration with Mika in 2010, Coca-Cola will soon release 2 limited-edition aluminum bottles inspired by Daft Punk. The gold and silver bottles are said to "mimic the helmets worn by the French duo". Daftcoke.com will go live in a few months and will offer more details.

Coca-Cola [Red] Light

That curvaceous silhouette is slipping into some stretching leopard print for a limited run of 300,000. Coca-Cola has hired Roberto Cavalli's services to create "dresses" aimed at the young, feminine, fashion-oriented market.

Three Tiers! Holiday

I just now realized I should probably blog this instead of sending endless e-mails to the SF studio. Hatch, San Francisco, has designed the '07 holiday packaging for Coke, Diet Coke, and Coke Zero. As an observance of how our work on Coke has rested in other hands, I have also included Hatch's other work on the i.d. for Vanilla Coke and Vanilla Coke Zero: does anyone else see Créme Savers?

The Coke Side of Death

The Ga tribe in Ghana see funerals as a a time for celebration as well as a time for mourning. They honor the dead with brightly colored custom coffins in the shape of an object that represents their lives. In addition to the Coca-Cola coffin, the following link includes coffins in the shapes of fish, pineapples, shoes, and cars.

It's the real thing.

Commisioned by Mother (London ad. agency) for Coca-Cola, directed by Nagi Noda (famous Japanese artist and top director). Simple yet effective - no computer effects. Vocal by Jack White. Well worth a look. http://www.partizan.com/partizan/commercials/?nagi_noda

Lateral Inhibition: The elusive Coke Red/Intrinsic combination

Color: (latin root celare) to conceal

" Each photo-receptor tends to inhibit the response of the one next to it. The result is that which appears to be clear appears even to be more so and vice versa. The same mechanism works for colors: when a photo-receptor from one area of the retina becomes stimulated by a color, those next to it become less sensitive to that color."

"Color is illusion, a ghost that takes life only in our visual system, when light stimulates the photo-receptors - the antennae that pick up luminous signals – that fill in the background of our eyes. The world surrounding us is sadly in reality monochrome."

Why? Because, We Contour Can!

"Other agencies must have suggested this," said David Turner months ago in a very matter-of-fact tone. Yes, we all want a Coca-Cola contour can. Well, it was produced at one point, albeit in limited release and in only a sample market. This article, published in 1997, optmistically predicts the future of all Coca-Cola soda residing within proprietary packaging.
