Packaging inspired by architecture?

On NOTCOT, there is an article that discusses the myth behind the design of Chanel's No.5 bottle. Coco Chanel frequented Place Vendome, and the proportions of the No.5 bottle exactly match that of the plaza. (The Google maps picture is a split image with the bottle superimposed on the left.)

This could be the transverse of the effect the ipod had on the Apple store designs.

Kinetic Sculptor, Theo Jansen

Dutch Engineer/Artist, Theo Jansen, creates wind-powered artificial life that roams the beaches of the Netherlands. His work is beautiful in images, but truly poetic in motion, so check out the video links below.

Coppola Wine Labels

Francis Ford Coppola has been releasing some interesting wine labels. The Director's Cut labels, resembling disassembled zoetropes, tie in the intriacies involved in film-makinga and wine-making. The FC Reserve labels speak to the uniqueness of every blend by alternating six different design layouts on the bottles.

FFFFOUND!

Image bookmarking: a website where you submit the strangest, most clever, beautiful images you can find and share them with other users. It is basically a FLICKR with better images and without having to scroll through endless shots of some girl's bachelorette party at Hooter's on the wharf.

Illuminating Displays

We have all seen the light art crafted in the Sprint ads. Yet, Eric Staller was creating similar pieces back in the late 70's using long exposures on sparklers, christmas lights wrapped around hula hoops, etc.

Turner Duckworth Creates a ‘Non-Corporate’ Identity for Jamba Juice®

San Francisco & London, July 18, 2007 – International design firm Turner Duckworth has created a new Jamba Juice® visual identity system to help communicate and celebrate the brand in a contemporary, entertaining and engaging new light.

“Today’s consumers are more discriminating than ever. They recognize and reward authentic, honest brands that show a true passion for what they do,” says David Turner, Head of Design at Turner Duckworth San Francisco.

The challenge, says Turner, “was creating a highly distinctive visual language with a consistent personality that also feels spontaneous and fresh every time you see it. It’s a ‘non-corporate’ identity.”

The innovative new design system gives Jamba Juice the ability to keep its identity fresh and lively. A plentiful menu of vibrant colors, bold textures, handwritten type treatments and exuberant imagery can be blended in myriad combinations to create in-store graphics, posters, brochures, packaging and promotions. The result is a visual identity system that exudes energy, fun and natural goodness.

“Jamba Juice’s passion is helping people to lead healthy, active lifestyles and to have fun doing it,” says Turner. “They’re all about making wholesome nutrition accessible, delicious and fun. Our new design system emphasizes the genuine qualities that make Jamba Juice an exceptional and exciting brand.”
